[Update: July 7] Huawei/Honor phones eligible for EMUI 11 or Magic UI 4.0 (Android R/Android 11): Here’s the purported list

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 18, 2020) follows:

Huawei unveiled its latest EMUI 10 skin at its HDC 2019 event last August, taking over from the previous EMUI 9 that formed a layer on top of Android Pie. The company also announced Magic UI 3.0, basically, a rebranded EMUI 10 meant for Honor devices.

It took the Chinese company over two months of testing before the stable EMUI 10 based on Android 10 finally made it to the Huawei P30 and Mate 20 family of devices.

It didn’t take long before Magic UI 3.0 also arrived on the Honor View 20, Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro units, also tagging along Android 10 OS. To date, Huawei says EMUI 10 runs on over 50 million devices across the globe.

Compared to the number of Huawei/Honor devices pumped into the market annually, this is a mere drop in the ocean. Sure, the company is still rolling out Android 10 to more devices and probably this could go on until Q3 2020, just in time for the launch of EMUI 11 based on Android 11 (Android R).

Speaking of, a list of Huawei/Honor devices allegedly eligible for EMUI 11 or Magic UI 4.0 update based on Android 11 has surfaced online, but of course, its nothing official from the company itself.

Matter of fact, seasoned Huawei/Honor smartphone users may have an idea of which devices will receive the EMUI 11 update when it arrives based on past experiences. In essence, this list of devices expected to receive the update is based on such knowledge, so expect future changes.

As noted, Huawei-branded devices will receive EMUI 11 updates while Honor-branded (probably not all of them) will get Magic UI 4.0 update, with Android 11 as the base OS.

Typically, premium devices in the Mate and P series get at least two major OS upgrades. This means that any Mate 20 phone (except Mate 20 Lite), Mate X, and the entire P30 series should receive EMUI 11 update. Of course, this also means the entire Mate 30 series is eligible for Android 11.

Also expected to receive EMUI 11 update is the entire Huawei Nova 5 series, including the 5i and its Pro counterpart. The Nova 5T, if you can recall, was among the first to pick up the stable EMUI 10 update based on Android 10.

That said, the newer Nova 6 series that came pre-installed with Android 10 should get EMUI 11 ahead of the Nova 5T and co. That’s just how Android OS updates work, nothing unusual.

Owners of the Huawei Enjoy 10, Enjoy 10S, Enjoy 10 Plus (Y9 Prime 2019), MatePad, and MediaPad M6 are also in line to receive the Android 11 update.

Honor devices eligible for Magic UI 4.0 update

For those looking forward to the next Magic UI 4.0 update based on Android 11, the OS will reportedly be pushed to the entire Honor 20, View 20, and View 30 family of devices as well as the budget Honor 9X duo and Honor 20 Lite, although the latter trio may get EMUI 11 update.
