When some time ago OnePlus announced that its first 5G phone powered by Qualcomm will be released in the first half of 2019, everyone thought that it is OnePlus 7 that the Chinese company was just confirming. After all, OnePlus launches only two smartphones in one year. However, it looks like the 5G device that the phone maker will release early in 2019 will not be the next gen OnePlus 7.
OnePlus 7 will not work in 5G
Considering the fact that OnePlus 6T was just released, it was always unlikely that OnePlus 7 would be launched in early 2019. It is highly possible that this device will make its debut sometime in May or June. Moreover, the company stated that the next flagship smartphone will not be equipped with 5G connectivity.
The OnePlus 5G phone will be something different
OnePlus is expected to release its first 5G phone at the beginning of the next year. According to some reports, this device could be unveiled as early as late February, during the annual MWC. The OnePlus 5G smartphone will not be that similar to the popular flagship device, but it will rather belong to a separate line that is set to expand the current portfolio.
The OnePlus 5G smartphone will be more expensive
Due to the fact that it will use the upcoming 5G technology, the OnePlus 5G phone is definitely going to be more expensive than the next OnePlus 7. This might be a problem for the Chinese company, as the 5G coverage is likely to be quite bad for some time to come.
On the other hand, OnePlus 7 will not have the 5G connectivity, thanks to which this smartphone will be much cheaper, following in the footsteps of its predecessors. After all, OnePlus is known for its very affordable flagship phones.
