Are you seeing the iPad black screen of death? This happens when the iPad is stuck on a black screen and won’t respond to any touch. However, it doesn’t mean the device is ruined. You can get the iPad working again with some simple and advanced solutions.
How to fix iPad black screen of death
Restart iPad
This is the simplest solution you can use as it fixes software glitches that could cause the iPad black screen of death.
Charge battery
If you see a black screen, it may be that the iPad’s battery is depleted. If it’s too low, you won’t even see a low-battery message and it won’t even show the charging symbol. The iPad’s battery should charge with either a 10 or 12-watt charger.
Check for bad apps or the charging port
If you frequently find a full battery discharge issue, a rogue app may be the problem. Go to Settings>Battery and check the usage levels. Apps consuming more battery are displayed first, so close or uninstall them and see if the iPad works again.
If the charging port is dirty or isn’t giving a full charge to the iPad, you can use a toothpick or non-metal tool to remove dust and try to charge it again.
Adjust screen brightness
The iPad may be on, but you can only see a dark screen because of the dim screen settings. You can ask Siri to increase brightness, or increase the brightness by swiping up the menu and moving the slider to increase it.

To do this:
- Turn off the device and cover it with a towel
- Pat its back like you would when burping a baby
- Uncover the iPad and turn it on
If it helps, it could be hardware-related so it’ll surely resurface. Take it to an Apple Store or certified expert to repair it.
