Samsung has started distributing a new update for the Samsung Gear S3, which includes some improvements and several new features for sleep analysis, training and message reception. Let’s take a look at what’s new.
Samsung Gear S3 update brings some new features
Gear S3’s operating system, Tizen gets a new update of 300 MB, which will bring some improvements to the device. The new version of the OS will now be Tizen 4.0.0.2. Thanks to the new version, Samsung Health will support more indoor activities and training sessions that are supposed to help strengthening the back muscles.
Additionally, the Samsung Health Widget will show users some information about the different sleep stages from now on.
Two advanced modes are also now available in the Gear S3 settings: Theather and Sleep. The purpose of the first mode is to suppress notifications and bright flashes in cinemas, while the second one is meant to stop notifications that would wake a user up and also to improve recording in sleep. If you want to activate either of these modes, you can easily do so via the quick settings of the watch.
Other improvements
There’s been a change when it comes to the entries in the settings as well, which have been restructured to be more helpful for users. Also, once a user gets a notification regarding a MMS they received, the images in the message are now displayed, while GIFs are automatically played back. The news app also got an update and now it has a design section, and more than 1,000 emojis are currently supported.
When to expect the update?
At the moment, the update is being distributed in the United States, but it should soon roll out to other regions as well, probably in the following days or weeks. As long as no serious bugs are discovered, the update will be automatically offered on the Gear S3. If you would like to manually check if the update is available for your device, all you need to do is to access “About Gear”, then “Software Update” in the Galaxy Wearable app.
The same update is also rolling out now to the Samsung Gear Sport and Gear S3 Frontier.
