In 2018 we did not receive an update for iMac. However, we are expecting one in 2019. There are some things that we can anticipate already, and there are some rumours flying around. We have collected them all in one place.
Price
The price shouldn’t be that different from the current prices of the iMac, although they might rise a little bit:
- Entry-level 21.5-inch iMac – £1,049 ($1,330)
- Mid-level 21.5-inch iMac – £1,249 ($1,583)
- Top-level 21.5-inch iMac – £1,449 ($1,837)
- Entry-level 27-inch iMac – £1,749 ($2,217)
- Mid-level 27-inch iMac – £1,949 ($2,471)
- Top-level 27-inch iMac – £2,249 ($2,851)
Release date
This one is not that hard to pinpoint. Most big companies release new device at the same time of the year. The last iMac we received was released at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which took place in June 2017. Therefore, we could expect the next iMac to be released at the same event I 2019. This means that we could get it next summer.
New design
Since Apple took a one-year break we could get something big next year. Some believe that a major redesign is on its way. This could definitely be interesting, as iMac had almost the same design since 2012.
Features
Some rumours indicate that the 2019 iMac could come with Face ID and a Touch Bar. The iMac could also come with 6 or 8 cores from Intel, although other reports suggest that Apple will use its own processors.
When it comes to the graphics card, it is believed that the 2019 iMac will have one that is based around the AMD Vega such as Vega 32 or Vega 28. If we take a look at the patents which were connected with the iMac, we might expect a gaze detection technology.
