The Witcher 4 – What do we Know about its Release Date?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an action role-playing game developed and published by CD Projekt RED in 2015. It is the third part and the most known game from the Witcher trilogy based on the fantasy novels of Andrzej Sapkowski.

It received both massive commercial success and critical acclaim selling over 33 million copies as of 2017. It was praised for its gameplay, combat, beautiful surroundings and storyline.

The game received many Game of the Year awards being cited more than once as one of the greatest video games of all times. Gwent, a game within the game was so popular that the company released a couple of spin-off games. It had also two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine that were very well received by gamers, so well that they are hoping and expecting a continuation.

CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski had stated that there is no Witcher game in development and that is unlikely that will ever be one: “This is the end […] there won’t be any Witcher any time soon – if there ever will be one.” In the same time he also mentioned that they “are not killing the world and walking away with it.”

CEO Adam Kiciński said: “The first three ‘Witchers’ were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game ‘The Witcher 4’. This does not mean, of course, that we will leave the world of The Witcher.” He added that “The Witcher is one of two franchises on which to build the future activities of the company. Today, unfortunately, I cannot reveal anything more.”

The game took many years till its release and this is why was a masterpiece with very few technical issues which were anyways patched later on. As these games are so massive and require so much work it is only natural to assume that if any development will start for a Witcher four sequel, it will take few years till will get released.

For the time being the studio is focusing all its resources on Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most ambitious games in making.
