Google Maps Street View not working on iOS after the latest update to v5.49, workaround inside

The Street View option found on Google Maps is an incredibly useful feature for those who want to see what the actual location of a particular area looks like. The feature is available on both Android and iOS devices through Google Maps.

However, it now appears that the Street View mode isn’t working on Google Maps for users on iOS devices. Apparently, this issue only came into effect after users installed the latest update which is v5.49.

Prior to the update, users were able to access the Street View option on Google Maps the usual way i.e., by tapping on the street they wish to view. However, after installing v5.49, tapping on a specific point on the map does not bring up the Street View mode.

Of course, after noticing the missing street view option, many users (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) have taken to Google’s support page as well as Twitter to report the problem. Here are some of the reports:

Judging by the influx of reports, the issue seems to be widespread and there are chances that Google has removed the feature intentionally. However, the search giant is yet to address the problem officially.

Some users also pointed out that the Street View option in Google Maps can now be accessed by heading to a POI (Point of interest). Further, another user also claimed that the Street View mode can be accessed by searching for a specific address.

Therefore, the feature seems to have not been removed completely. But in case that does not cut it for you, there’s a temporary workaround for the problem or rather a couple of alternatives as suggested by a Product Expert on Google’s support page.

This involves downloading the dedicated Street View app or using the Google Earth app that’s available on the App Store. Of course, this isn’t a permanent solution but could be your only option for the time being.
