U.S. unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9 & Galaxy S9+ One UI 2.1 update released alongside July security patch

Talks of One UI 3.0 are beginning to take shape as the release date of the stable Android 11 update approaches. Google will begin rolling out the OS to the Pixels in a few weeks’ time, but Samsung devices will have to wait longer before the update arrives.

When the rollout begins, the Galaxy S20 series is expected to get it first. Matter of fact, the company is reportedly testing the One UI 3.0 update in the UK. An Exynos variant of the Galaxy S20+ set even popped up on Geekbench running the new OS, all but confirming internal testing is indeed ongoing.

Amid all this, the company is also rolling out One UI 2.1 updates to eligible devices like the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The duo currently sits on Android 10, the second and last major OS update. This means no One UI 3.0 for the S9 pair, but there is hope for One UI 2.5 update.

Sure, quite a good number of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ owners have picked up the One UI 2.1 update. Heck, even the usually laggy T-Mobile has already pushed the update and so has Verizon Wireless.

If you own the U.S. unlocked Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ and have been eager to try the new One UI 2.1, the wait has finally come to an end. As I write this, reports of One UI 2.1 update rolling out on the carrier-free S9 and S9+ handsets in the U.S. are doing rounds on social media.

The update is arriving as version G960U1UEU7ETG1 on the standard S9 and version G965U1UEU7ETG1 on the S9+. In addition to all the goodies that One UI 2.1 brings, the OTA package also tags along July 2020 security patches.

The software is airborne, meaning it will take some time before all U.S. unlocked Galaxy S9 and S9+ units pick up the One UI 2.1 OTA package. So stay patient as you wait for your turn, probably by the end of this week.
