Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera in 2018 with Android 8 Oreo out of the box. Since then, the device has received the Android 9 Pie update topped with MIUI 11.
The Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera was launched just one month after Redmi Note 5 Pro. The devices are essentially the same except for the camera and memory configuration. However, the latter was specific to the Indian market while the former was launched globally.
Redmi devices only receive one major OS update from Xiaomi. But, Redmi Note 5 Pro received two major OS updates because of its Global variant. This is because the former was launched with Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.
While many Xiaomi devices have received the Android 10 update, Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera is going to miss out on it. This information came from a Mi community moderator who responded to a user’s post.
This news shouldn’t come as a surprise because Xiaomi has already provided the device with one major OS update. However, both devices are slated to get the MIUI 12 update.
Many devices have already received the latest update as the first round of the schedule is over. The second round is due to begin in August and both devices are expected to receive the latest custom skin in this round.
Now that Xiaomi is coming up with premium devices like Redmi K20 Pro and more, we hope that the OEM changes its update plan for Redmi devices to at least two major OS updates.
