WoW Classic is so close and some people haven’t yet decided what character to choose as their main. There are 9 classes in World of Warcraft, and each faction has an exclusive class: The Alliance get Paladins and the Horde has Shamans. The rest are available irrespective of the faction you join. Have you chosen your main?
If not, check out our short guide. We won’t get into too many details, since we want to keep this guide short and comprehensive. Nonetheless, you can head over to WOWHEAD or Icy Veins for complete guides for each class, professions, leveling, farming and more.
If you’re a WoW player in BFA, would you go for the same main class or try something new? Let’s see what are your options and how you can make the best of your class by choosing the right spec.
Druids can play as Healers, Tanks, Ranged and Melee – being the class that has it all, in case you’re confused what you want to play.
- They’re available to Alliance – Night Elves, and Horde – Tauren.
- Played as: Hybrid, Primary Healer
Nonetheless, being the jack-of-all-trades is not so great, considering that the only great specs are the Healer (Restoration) and the Tank (Feral Combat).
Whatever you do, don’t go Balance, as they’re poor performers in PvE and PvP.
However, they neither the best Tanks, Healers or DPS in WoW Classic.
Hunters are high DPS dealers, great for those that want to play solo.
- They’re available to Alliance – Night Elves, Dwarves and Horde – Orcs, Tauren, Trolls.
- Played as: Ranged Physical Damage Dealer
Some things you should bear in mind is that in Classic Hunters have to make sure they have arrows in their bags and food for their pets. They’re great performers in raids, strong early game and easy to farm with.
You can choose from three DPS talent trees: Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival.
Mages are very powerful, and you can choose from three talent trees: Arcane, Fire, and Frost.
- They’re available to Alliance – Humans, Gnomes and Horde – Undead, Trolls.
- Played as: Primary Ranged Magic Damage Dealer
In late game, they even beat the Hunters’ ranged damage, but they lack the mobility of the Hunters. One issue with the Mages is that they die easily, so they must use all the CC and buffs to stay alive.
The great thing about mages is that they’re easy to use in AoE farming, great for PvP and have amazing utility. Plus, they’re able to conjure food, drinks and create portals, helping you to save that gold you’d spend on consumables.
Paladins can only be played by those that choose Alliance as their faction. They have three talent trees: Holy, Retribution, Protection.
- They’re available to Alliance – Humans and Dwarves
- Played as: Primary Healer
Players that choose to play DPS (Retribution) will not deal a lot of damage, but they will last longer in battles. Paladin tanks (Protection) are not great for raids, but can be used in dungeons. Alliance players will choose at least four Paladins for raids to get those sweet Blessing buffs and the best healing capabilities (Holy).
Priests are a versatile ranged class, used in dungeons and raids. If you’re going to raids, better take healing Priests.
- They’re available to Alliance – Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, and Horde – Undead, Trolls
- Played as: Primary Healer, Hybrid Ranged DPS
They have two talent trees dedicated to healing – Discipline and Holy, but you can always turn to Shadow for PvP, as it is one of the best PvP spec, also being used in PvE.
Rogues are at the top of the DPS meters, nearly on the same spot as Fury Warriors.
- They’re available to Alliance – Gnomes, Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, and Horde – Orcs, Undead, Trolls
- Played as: Primary Melee Damage Dealer
Rogues are great in dungeons, but must choose their spec carefully when joining raids. You don’t want to encounter a Rogue in PvP! They have three talent trees – Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety. Players that choose Rogues will have to choose between using daggers or swords.
Shamans are only available to Horde players and has a great utility and healing power. You can play them as melee DPS (Enhancement), ranged DPS (Elemental), or healer (Restoration).
- They’re available to Horde – Orcs, Tauren, Trolls
- Played as: Primary Healer
Shamans’ totems are essential for groups. When used as healers, they’re powerful in healing multiple players and buff allies with their Totems. As DPS Elementals, they deal high bursts of damage and can also heal allies. The melee DPS is the weakest choice for Classic, only focusing on buffing allies and dealing less DPS than the ranged ones.
Warlocks are decent damage dealers, but can resist in fights better than Mages.
- They’re available to Alliance Gnomes, Humans, and Horde – Orcs, Undead
- Played as: Debuffer
Warlocks have powerful curses and are more supportive in raids than Mages as well, offering Soulstones, Healthstones and a lot of CC.
Warriors are the best melee DPS class in WoW Classic, very strong in PvP and PvE. You can choose from three specs: Fury, Arms, Protection
- They’re available to all races, both factions
- Played as: Primary Tank, Melee DPS
Warriors are also the best tanks in Classic. While it is a little tougher to level as a Warrior, once you get at 60, you’ll see it’s all worth it.
