Using Google Maps Offline Guide

We have all been there. Going to visit a new city or even country without having been there in the past can be quite intimidating, especially if you don’t have friends or connections which can guide you.

Many people will think about using Google Maps, which is the most popular map app in the world. It can help you to learn where your desired destination is, what to use to get there, and even prices in some cases.  The app is quite handy and easy to use, but some will point out one thing: the need to have an active internet connection.

There are places where is signal coverage is poor, and you don’t have access to mobile data or a reliable Wi-Fi network.  To address this problem, Google has created an offline mode which allows people to access the core functionality of the app. Users can download maps for offline viewing and access them at all time without the need to worry about the internet connection. Read below to learn more about the feature and how to use it.

How to use the offline mode

  • Unlock your smartphone and open the Google Maps app.
  • Tap in the menu to see the navigation option on the left side of the screen.
  • Tap on the Offline Maps options.

To use the feature, you can customize the option by picking between Home or Custom. The home will allow users to save the area which surrounds their home, a feature which can be quite handy when someone comes to visit you.

Downloading a map for a different location is as easy as tracking down the desired location. Once this task is accomplished, you can tap on a Download button to begin the process and save the map on your local device.

After the task is completed, you can see a list off all the maps which have been saved for offline use.
