Nobody likes blurry iPhone photos especially when you have the latest model and you’re sure the camera will deliver high quality pictures from your vacation, travel or other occasion. If your iPhone camera seems to be capturing blurry photos, it could be having issues focusing on objects.

Sometimes, however, it could be how you’re taking the photos and not the camera itself, but we’re going to show you how to minimize blurry photos and get clearer shots on your iPhone.

What to do when you get blurry iPhone photos

These steps apply for users of iPhone 7 or 7 plus.

Clean the camera lens

Sometimes your iPhone’s camera lens could have dirt accumulated on it from dust or touching it with fingerprints, and you end up getting blurry images. You can use a soft microfiber cloth and perform simple maintenance on your iPhone to resolve the problem going forward.

Remove the iPhone case

If your iPhone has a case, it could affect the phone’s performance especially the camera, causing it to shake and lose focus. The result is blurry iPhone photos which nobody wants to look at. The phone case can also block the lens, so try and remove it and see if the images are clearer.

Soft reset

A soft reset can help fix the blurry images so take these steps to perform one:

  • Press and hold the Power button until the slide to power off message appears on your screen
  • Slide the power switch to turn off the phone
  • Once it’s off, press and hold the power button again until the Apple logo appears on the screen
  • Release the button and let the phone restart

Lock the focus

If your iPhone camera’s focus keeps shifting, you can lock it. Apple considered newbies who just got their iPhones and so the lock focus feature was added. It helps if your hands are shaky or the object you’re trying to capture keeps moving. To do this:

  • Start Camera app and focus on the object
  • Tap and hold the object on the screen to lock the focus on it
  • Capture the object

Reset device settings

This will restore all settings to default. To do this:

  • Open Settings>General and select Reset
  • Tap Reset all settings and enter your passcode
  • Now tap Reset all settings again to confirm the action

Factory reset

If all else fails, backup your data and perform a factory reset on your iPhone. To do this:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap General>Reset
  • Press Erase all content and settings
  • Enter your passcode
  • Tap Erase iPhone
