Back in 2015, WhatsApp released a web version that was just like the app but on the PC. However, in order to use it, you needed to have your phone connected to the internet. This will soon change.
Would we be able to use WhatsApp on our PCs without our phones?
A reliable source said in a tweet that the company might be developing a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app, together with a new multi-platform system that should work even if the phone is off.
The tweet comes from WABetaInfo, and it says “And yes, in according to my rumor, UWP + the new multi-platform system = you can use WhatsApp UWP on your PC if your phone (Android, iOS or Windows Phone) is off.”
This is huge for the fanbase of the app
This would actually be a huge deal for the chat app. We want to remind you that it has more than 1.5 billion active users all around the world. It can really help you stay in touch with your friends and family, especially when you’re on the move, and your battery does not like you that much. The app is very similar to Telegram.
As of now, we have no info with regards to when the feature will be available, but we know that it is a done deal: it will surely happen. Right now, we cannot do anything but wait for a statement on this matter.
The company has also suggested that they are working on a multi-platform system, that will let its users get access to their chats on more than one device with their same old account. They are also working on synchronization with WhatsApp’s UWP. It’s all in works, but they want to offer us the standard chat interface even if we are using multiple devices with the same account.
