Six years ago, in 2013, Ubisoft released the last installment of Splinter Cell. The video game was widely considered, both by players and critics, to be among the best series ever produced by Ubisoft Studios. The first game in the Splinter Cell series was launched in 2002, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist was the last sequel Ubisoft released.
Fans of the stealth video game series were disappointed to discover that Ubisoft did not release any other sequel for the series in the following years.
The company did not reveal any new information about the game either. However, to the fans’ excitement, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently confirmed that a new sequel for Splinter Cell might be released in the upcoming years.
Splinter Cell Sequel Is In The Works, According To Ubisoft CEO
Currently, Ubisoft focuses all of its attention on its hit video game, Rainbow six: siege, which received a lot of praise, growing in popularity more and more as time passes. The company has been patching the game ever since it was first released and conducted many different online competitions for its players.
During an IGN podcast, Guillemot said: “When you create a game, you have to make sure you come with something different enough from what you did before. Now, some people are looking at, ah, the brand, taking care of the brand. So at some point, you will see something. I can’t say more than that.”
It’s clear that the Ubisoft CEO can’t divulge any more information for now, but he still gave Splinter Cell fans hope. Although the sequel might not be in the development stage yet, the fact that Ubisoft decided to give it another shot will fill many people with joy.
