WiFi Calling is a neat feature that allows you to receive or make calls via a WiFi connection where there’s little or no cellular coverage. If you want to learn how to make a call on your iPhone, read this guide to set it up and get started.

Before you set up, make sure your device is iPhone 5C or later on a supported carrier.

Make Calls With WiFi Calling on iPhone

How to place WiFi calls from your iPhone

To do this:

  • Go to Settings>Phone>WiFi Calling. If its available, you’ll see WiFi in the status bar after your carrier name, and your calls will use the feature
  • Enter and/or confirm your address for emergency services

To add a device, do the following:

  • Make sure the device has the latest software version and then go to Settings>Phone and turn on WiFi Calling
  • Turn on Calls on Other Devices
  • Tap Add WiFi Calling for other devices
  • On the other device, sign in to iCloud and FaceTime using the same Apple ID and password you use for your iPhone

If you can’t add a device, check the following:

  • Make sure WiFi Calling and Allow Calls on Other Devices settings are both on
  • Check that your device appears under Allow Calls On
  • Ensure you’re using the same Apple ID for FaceTime and iCloud on your iPhone and on the other device

You can make and receive WiFi calls on other devices if your carrier supports the feature on devices connected to iCloud.

To Remove a device, do the following:

  • Open Settings> Phone> Calls on Other devices. From the list of devices, turn off WiFi Calling for the device you want removed. If its your Apple Watch for example, go to the Watch App on iPhone, tap My Watch>Phone and turn off the feature

If you can’t use or turn on the feature, check your carrier to make sure it offers the service, and your devices have the latest software. Once you do this, take the steps below (wait two minutes in between steps):

  • Open Settings> Phone> WiFi Calling and turn it on.
  • Restart the iPhone.
  • Connect to a different WiFi network with the feature
  • Turn the feature off and then turn it on again.
  • Go to Settings> General> Reset
  • Tap Reset Network Settings

Note: FaceTime isn’t supported in all regions or countries.
