How To Fix Android App Not Installed Error

Android App Not Installed Error

One of the common problems Android users get among a barrage of system errors is the Android app not installed error.  While it may seem like a problem directly related to software or hardware, this one is pretty much about how you use the device, and appears when you try installing an APK that’s unavailable on Google Play Store.

Besides installing APK files, some of which may be corrupt, other causes of the Android App Not Installed error include:

  • Insufficient storage
  • Corrupt APK file
  • Corrupt storage device
  • Insufficient system permissions
  • Duplicate installation

The good news is you can get this fixed using some of the tried and tested solutions below, but make sure you transfer important data from the Android device to your computer for backup.

Fix Android App Not Installed Error

You can restart your device, but if that doesn’t help, try the fixes below:

Clear storage

Ensure your storage is clear of unwanted or junk files to reduce errors you may get, while freeing up space for important data. To do this, open Settings>App Manager and check the apps hogging storage on your device.

You can uninstall heavy apps or tap Clear data for problematic apps.

Download apps from Trusted Sources

Ideally, Google Play Store is the go-to place for downloading apps to Android devices. You may be tempted to download APKs that aren’t available in your region, but don’t do it regularly as it brings up Android app not installed error.

Downloading from third-party sites is risky as the APKs may contain viruses or malware that’ll infect your device.

Allow Requested Permissions

Without the app permissions, the apps you download may not function as they should. If you download and install apps and get permissions requests, allow the permissions so as to use the apps. Insufficient permissions may result in the error, so to check the permissions, open Settings>Apps and tap the app.

You can reset application permissions to ensure it works well again. However, avoid allowing root permissions as it gives the app full control of your device and it may work against you.

Don’t Change Install Location

When you install apps, you’re allowed to choose where they should be installed. Let the default selection remain instead of changing it as it may bring up errors and the app may not work well.

Factory Reset

As a last resort, this solution may help if all else fails. Back up your device before doing this as it wipes data and other settings. To do this:

  • Open Settings>Backup & Reset
  • Tap Factory data reset
  • Now tap Reset phone>Erase everything
  • Enter your password if any, and the reset will begin. Once complete, try installing the app again.
