Google Play Services 17.4.55 Update is Rolling Out with Important Bug Fixes

Even though most Android fans might not know this, Google Play Services is one of the most valuable components of the Android operating system. The reason why Google Play Services is not as popular as the Google Play Store in the Android community is because it is a background app. This means that even though we might not see what Google Play Services does, we can certainly feel it and the reason behind this is that Google Play Services takes care of high-priority tasks in Google’s operating system such as providing access to all the latest user privacy settings, synchronizing contacts and more importantly, making it possible for third-party and Native Android apps to receive updates.

Google Play Services 17.4.55 Update

Talking about updates, Google Play Services has just received a new one. The new update is changing the build number of Google Play Services to 17.4.55 and it is being rolled out via OTA (over the air) channels right now. We are advising all Android fans to keep their smartphones connected to a stable Wi-Fi network and to download the new update as soon as it pops up in their notification panels.

APK Release

The update is also available in the form of APK. However, this should come as no surprise since Google Play Services is a native Android app and the APK update format stands for “Android Package Kit”. The trick to installing this type of updates is to manually download it, but not before enabling the “Unknown Sources” option.

What’s New?

The question that all Android fans must be asking right now is what’s new? Well, since Google Play Services is a background app, then it doesn’t come with any new features. However, the update makes up for that by introducing a bunch of high priority bug fixes.
