The iPhone Do Not Disturb While Driving feature is a handy one; its great to have it actually. Despite being a safety measure for drivers, Do Not Disturb can sometimes be irritating and annoying.
Ideally, it’s meant to help drivers not get distracted by their phones on the road as this can cause serious, or sometimes even fatal accidents. This way, you focus more and keep your eyes fixed on the road instead of reading and responding to a text, or answering a call that’s probably not that urgent.
What is Do Not Disturb mode?
This is a feature designed to silence any notifications that aren’t high priority, and get back to them once you come to a stop or park your vehicle.
By default, it disables some of your iPhone’s functionality and allows specific calls and/or notifications through such as alarms, emergency alerts, timers, and more.
The feature senses when you’re in motion and occasionally activates on iPhones for people in the passenger seats. However, passengers can tap I’m Not Driving if this happens.
However, you may want to disable Do Not Disturb mode and decide by yourself whether or not you want to check on your phone as you drive, but this isn’t recommended.
Here we outline the steps you can take to disable the Do Not Disturb feature on your iPhone.
Note: The feature is only available in ios 11 or above for iPhones, so you might want to update your operating system if yours runs on an older version.
How to disable Driving mode in iPhone
As stated earlier, your iPhone senses when you’re in motion and activates the Driving Mode feature, which you can turn on or off via the ios Control Center.
To turn it on, do this:
- Go to Settings>Control Center>Customize Controls
- Tap Do Not Disturb While Driving
If you’re using iPhone X or newer versions, toggle the feature off and on in the Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner of your screen, and then tapping the car icon.
For older iPhones, like 8 and below, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and then tap the car icon.
