Microsoft has recently released the driver updates for their Surface Studio, Surface Laptop, and Surface Laptop 2. That is part of their month-to-month updates of the drivers. In this article, we will present to you all the improvements these updates bring.
Surface Laptop
They run on the Windows 10 April 2018 update, with version 1803. The Surface System 4.1.139.0 comes with significant improvements to the Surface Intersil Ambient Light Sensor (HID for short). It also brings improvements when it comes to the stability of the device.
Surface Laptop 2
Like the first Surface Laptop, Surface Laptop 2 also runs on the Windows 10 April 2018 update, with version 1803. It comes with the same improvements as it does for the first gen of the Surface Laptop. So we will find a better HID and enhancements for the stability of the device.
Surface Studio 2
However, the team behind Microsoft did not come with many details about Surface Studio 2 update, and the changelog is not actually available yet. However, more details are soon to come from the company. Most likely, the driver updates for Surface Studio 2 would also come with improved stability and performance.
The memory leak issue tackled by Microsoft with the recent driver updates
Overall, this seems like a small problem. However, it is far more significant than we thought. The ambient light sensor driver can cause a memory leak. This update should come with a fix for this issue. Those of you who have disabled the driver should re-enable it soon.
As some people have also said on Twitter, there is a brand new firmware for the Surface Studio 2 as well, but there are not many details on this matter yet. Microsoft will probably release some patch notes soon. We will have to wait a bit for that but bear with us. In short, Microsoft released driver updates for Surface Laptop, Surface Laptop 2, and Surface Studio 2 models.
