Quite a surprising announcement has just been made by Nintendo: a new virtual set for the Switch console is on its way. This set has been specifically designed for the Labo platform developed by the Japanese company. Labo is basically a set of cardboard add-ons that completely transform the Nintendo Switch. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.
Labo VR Kit to be soon launched
The entire name of the pack apparently is “Nintendo Labo: VR Kit” and there will be two versions available. The first one is a complete set which includes software, goggles, as well as five cardboard designs, while the second one is a smaller starter kit that includes just the goggles and one out of the five designs: a blaster/riffle. The full version of the pack will cost $80 and the smaller set will be available to purchase for $40.
If you decide to first buy the smaller kit, you will still have the possibility to buy more designs later on.
When can you start purchasing the new kit?
You can start buying the new VR kit starting with the 12th of April if you live in North America. Also, don’t forget that in order to be able to use this new VR Labo kit, you will need to first have a Nintendo Switch console. If you don’t have one yet, you can purchase it for approximately $300.
The Nintendo Labo VR Kit is pretty strange and even shocking
The newly released VR kit has also received quite a lot of criticism, as both versions of the set seem to be quite overpriced. Also, in some people’s opinion, the set has arrived too late. Not only that, but Nintendo’s choice of using a bird, an elephant or a gun as an inspiration for the cardboard structures has been viewed as rather bizarre and inappropriate. It’s great to see that Nintendo is finally embracing virtual reality, but for now the Labo VR Kit might have disappointed and shocked some of us.
