CEO Confirms that OnePlus 7 Will Not Support Wireless Charging

OnePlus 7 is one of the most highly anticipated smartphones of 2019 and the internet is buzzing with rumors and speculations about it. The reason why OnePlus 7 is so highly anticipated is because all flagship smartphones created by OnePlus feature the best hardware parts available on the market and their prices are usually quite affordable. Not only that, but OnePlus has confirmed that OnePlus 7 will be one of the world’s first smartphones to use 5G technology which offers faster connection and download speeds on mobile data.

OnePlus 7 Won’t Have Wireless Charging Support

Nonetheless, today we have some bad news for OnePlus fans. Pete Lau is the CEO of OnePlus and he announced earlier today that the next-generation flagship smartphone will not support wireless charging. The CEO went on to say that he doesn’t believe that wireless charging would benefit OnePlus 7 users because the smartphone’s proprietary charging standard called “Warp Charge” is much faster than wireless charging.

Convenience or Speed?

The CEO is right, the cable charging of OnePlus 7 is going to be much faster than wireless charging. However, the problem here is not about speed and instead, it is about convenience. People like to use wireless chargers and the fact that OnePlus 7 doesn’t support them is going to impact the smartphone’s sales.

Conclusion

We should note that another reason why OnePlus 7 will not feature wireless charging is because the smartphone needs to be affordable in order to meet the company standards. Therefore, introducing wireless charging would take the smartphone’s price up by a couple of dollars. The best move that OnePlus could make here is to create a pro version of OnePlus 7 such as OnePlus 7T for example which ships with wireless charging but costs a little bit more.
