With the recent release of iOS 12.1.3, some of us stopped hoping for a possible iOS 12 jailbreak, while some developers kept trying to find a way to jailbreak the iOS 12.
iOS 12.1.2 vulnerabilities have been exposed
A security researcher from the Qihoo 360 Vulcan Team, Qixun Zhao, has recently shared a report on iOS 12 vulnerabilities. He was able to exploit an iPhone X, which was running iOS 12.1.2. This new exploit seems to include arbitrary read and writes control to memory, which should be enough access to guarantee an iOS 12.1.2 jailbreak.
Still, the developer did not release everything to the public yet and he mentioned that users who want to jailbreak the OS will need to complete the entire process by themselves. He even added that the remaining details are actually in the jailbreaking community’s hands.
Is there a chance to see an iOS 12 jailbreak anytime soon?
There has been another situation recently when Alibaba security researcher Min Zheng and Xialong Bai managed to get root access to iPhone XS, XS Max and XR by simply using a Port-Oriented Programming attack in exploiting iOS 12.1.2’s vulnerabilities. They discovered something quite important: the potential vulnerabilities in Apple’s A12 bionic chipset that is known to be extremely secure.
Nevertheless, the security researcher did not share any details with the public, as he is supposed to report any vulnerabilities he finds to Apple itself and not release any information to the jailbreaking community.
What we know for sure so far is that developers and hackers keep reminding us not to upgrade to iOS 12.1.3 and still keep the earlier firmware. This is, of course, a very good sign for the jailbreaking community, as it means that there is still hope for an iOS 12 jailbreak, which hopefully should follow soon. Also, keep in mind that Apple is expected to stop signing the older firmware anytime in the near future.
