Minecraft’s Final and Largest Update for New Nintendo 3DS is Here

Last year we had an announcement from Minecraft’s developer, Mojang that they would start discontinuing support for Minecraft on older platforms, such as PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, after they would release a few more updates. That time is long gone and when it comes to other versions, things seemed to be going well so far. Now, quite suddenly, it looks like the company will stop giving support for another platform: New Nintendo 3DS. This, however, will happen after the platform receives the biggest update it has seen until now.

Support for Minecraft on New Nintendo 3DS ends

On a new blog post that was recently made on Minecraft’s official website, we have the developer’s confirmation that they will end support for the New Nintendo 3DS version of this popular game. This, of course, comes as a surprise, given the fact that the game was extremely popular on the platform. Nevertheless, the support doesn’t end without the company releasing first the largest update so far. In the blog entry, the company notes, “This is our final update for the New Nintendo 3DS version and also one of our largest. It’s packed with mansions and maps! Vindicators and Vexes! Bone blocks and bug fixes! Concrete and, er, concrete powder! Llamas and… love? No. Just llamas. But we love llamas so it’s all good.”

What does the last update bring us?

Several features have been introduced in this last update, such as woodland mansions, new explorer maps and iron & gold nugget smelting. Also, users will gain access to new items and blocks, as follows:

  • Concrete
  • Concrete Powder
  • Glazed Terracotta
  • Shulker Box
  • Frosted Ice
  • Totem of Undying
  • Iron & Gold Nuggets
  • Magma block
  • Bone block
  • Nether wart block
  • Red nether brick
  • Spawn Eggs (Llama, Vindicator, Evoker, Vex)

Some new entities will also become available for players:

  • Llamas
  • Vindicators
  • Evokers
  • Vexes
  • Cartographer Villagers

Additionally, Mending Enchantments and Frost Walker will become available as well, together with natural magma block generation in the Nether and underground fossils.

As far as other platforms are concerned, such as Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and the PC versions of Minecraft, they will continue to receive updates as usual for now.
