We all know that the Apple Watch Series 4 was the first smartwatch to have medical-grade features, one of which is the ECG app that was just recently released, at the end of 2018. This innovative app is able to detect atrial fibrillation and it has already proven to be extremely useful. But Apple might have a new rival when it comes to the Apple Watch. It seems that Whitings, which is a technology company from France, is showcasing the first smartwatch to take on-the-go ECGs at the CES event this week that takes place in Las Vegas.
What do we know about this new smartwatch
The Whitings Move ECG, which actually looks like a standard watch, is $280 cheaper than the Apple Watch Series 4, so it can be purchased for only $130. The smartwatch may look like a traditional timepiece, but inside of it there are three electrodes (one in the bezel and two in the watch case). So how does the watch work? Whenever the user is touching both sides of the bezel, the electrodes automatically start measuring the person’s electrical signal.
Compared to the Apple Watch, the Move ECG will not show the results on the watch face. This smartwatch works a little bit different. Once the ECG is done, the device will vibrate and then the results will be quickly synced to the Withings Health Mate app of the watch.
The Whitings Move ECG might be easier to use than the Apple Watch Series 4
According to what we’ve heard so far, the ECG functionality of the Move ECG might be in fact easier to use than the ECG app of the Apple Watch. This is because you don’t need to open any app – all you have to do in order to start a reading is to touch the bezel. Whitings said that the smartwatch is currently in the approval process and we should be able to start buying it in the first half of this year.
