Is A Horizontal Feed Coming To Instagram?

Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms at the moment, and there are plenty of reasons why users prefer it. Its vertical feed is one of those reasons, as it allows people to scroll easily through posts.

However, this might all come to an end, as a horizontal feed might be coming soon. The feature was accidentally revealed by Instagram a couple of days ago. It is very similar to the format of Stories. Basically, instead of scrolling you need to swipe or tap in order to go the next post. In a way, it is very similar to Tinder.

Reactions

Most users who received the feature were not happy at all. The horizontal feed proved to be very unpopular. Many believed that it was just a way to bring ads into the spotlight, and there was a lot less content displayed.

Fortunately for them, Instagram decided to switch back incredibly fast. An official statement was also released: “Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologise for any confusion.”

However, it is obvious that the horizontal feed isn’t just a bug. It is a feature that Instagram seems to have developed for quite some time. The feed should be released at some point in the future. Judging by the users’ reactions we can only hope that this won’t be complete change.

It would be nice to have the horizontal feed as an option, so users can decide whether they want to scroll or swipe. You can expect other changes in the future as well. “We’re always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and bring you closer to the people and things you love,” explained Instagram back in October.
