If all they want to do is simple office tasks, reading and browsing the internet the m3 version should be enough. Those that want extra power but the same form factor can opt to pay a higher price for a beefed-up I7 version.
- You want a MacBook that is light and the maximum budget is $1000. The old Air models fit the description and they are still worth the investment.
- Your new MacBook will come with you almost anywhere. It should handle pretty much everything but you don’t plan to do anything that requires a high amount of resources. The new MacBook Air has your name on it.
- A MacBook is great but you need some extra power. It will remain portable while also being able to handle some serious tasks. The 2017 13-inch MacBook Pro should do the job nicely.

The MacBook Air comes with an energy-efficient Amber Lake processor, two USB- C ports and a beautiful Retina display. The T2 Security Chip and TouchID features will keep it safe even if someone manages to steal it.
The base model starts at $1,199, with all the above plus 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage space.
12-inch MacBook: Light as a feather
This one was made for those that put portability above everything else. The smaller screen has a lower resolution, the battery is not as strong and you only get one USB port. Users can pick between three different processors, an m3, the more powerful i5 and a speedy i7 that can outperform the Air in some areas. All three chips are part of the Kaby Lake series.
The base model comes with the m3, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal space for $1,300. Those that wish to buff the specs will have to pay an extra $100 for the i5 or $250 for the i7.
13-inch MacBook Pro: A serious Mac for serious jobs
You want a Mac but you also want to do real jobs. Maybe you want to do some serious editing that implies photos, videos and or music. Or you love to do graphic design, coding and other intensive activities. The MacBook Pro is able to do all of that for a premium price that is on par with what it offers.
Users can customize their experience with a selection of processors that starts with a dual core Kaby Lake U-series and goes up to an i9. The price rises accordingly from $1,299 for the base 13-inch model to $2,799 for the base 15-inch models. The price is quite steep but the specs will remain competitive for a long while.
