Far Cry: New Dawn – The Apocalypse was Inevitable

The apocalypse was inevitable: What we know about Far Cry: New Dawn

Ubisoft released Far Cry 5 to positive reviews as fans around the world enjoyed yet another incarnation of the popular open world game. The game was set in the fictional Hope County, located in Montana. During the course of the game the protagonist clashes with a doomsday cult that plans to trigger the apocalypse.

Theories about the next Far Cry title surfaced before Far Cry 5 was released as the community was already anticipating what will come in the future.

Many fans speculated about a possible setting, with some believing that Far Cry will follow the footsteps of the latest Assassin’s Creed titles and take place in an ancient setting. While the concept would have been interesting Ubisoft had something else in mind.

Announced at the Game Awards Far Cry New: Dawn will show you a radically different Hope County with the events taking place seventeen years after a rain of nuclear fire purged the Earth, bringing the end of civilization as we once knew it.

The cataclysmic event has altered the world visibly as improvised weapons, rag-tag armor and a shattered world can be observed in the official announcement trailer. The game seems more akin to post-apocalyptic franchises like Rage and Fallout, but the tone appears to be colorful yet intense.

Those that played the previous game in the series were not surprised by the setting as the ‘’good’’ ending of Far Cry 5 allows Joseph Seed, the nefarious cult leader, to detonate a nuclear warhead that destroys Hope County.

It is interesting that for the first time since the series was introduced Ubisoft has decided to create a direct sequel that shows you the aftermath. Some were quick to criticize the decision, claiming that Ubisoft was too lazy to develop a different map for the next game and decided to revamp the map used in Far Cry 5 but most reactions were positive.

Far Cry: New Dawn will be released on February 15, 2019 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
