Although most of the Xiaomi devices that were released in 2018 have received the Android 8.1 Oreo update, users of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A are still waiting to get the recent version of this mobile operating system. However, Xiaomi has just revealed a list of its devices that will get the latest Android Pie update before the end of this year, including these two smartphones, even though they are yet to receive the Oreo update.
Redmi 5 and 5A are still using Android Nougat
Redmi 5 was released earlier in 2018 with MIUI 9 that was based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, which was later replaced with MIUI 10 Global Stable. When it comes to Redmi 5A, this phone was released last year and it also uses Android 7.1.2. It is not a surprise then that the arrival of Android Pie has put more pressure on Xiaomi to finally provide users of both devices with Android Oreo.
Beta testing of Android 8.1 Oreo has been completed
Some time ago, both Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A have started receiving a beta version of MIUI 10, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The testing must have been completed successfully, as all Xiaomi devices can now get the MIUI 10 Global ROM update, which shows as an MIUI Global Beta 8.11.23 and comes together with the November 2018 security patch. When it comes to Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A, Xiaomi provided these devices with an anti-rollback option, which some users might find useful once they update their devices.
Users of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A had to wait for a very long time to get Android Oreo, but it looks like they will be able to enjoy Android Pie in the near future, as soon it is expected to roll out to these two smartphones.
