The Android Oreo update became a controversial one for the Moto G4/ Moto G4+ devices. The G series from Motorola were quite popular, but sadly this does not mean that they will receive big updates. For example, the Moto G4 and the Moto G4+ were released two years ago, in May. The phones had Android Marshmallow and they even received the Android Nougat update later one. However, it appeared that the Android Oreo update wasn’t going to make an appearance.
Obviously, this was something that did not sit right with Moto G4 and Moto G4+ users. That is because the promotional material for their devices promised them the Android Oreo as well. After receiving numerous user complaints, Motorola decided to keep its promise, and it appears that an Android Oreo update is on its way for the Moto G4 and the Moto G4+.
Getting the update
The Android 8.1 update already reached Moto G5 and Moto G5S. It appears that the Moto G4 is next. One of the beta builds for the Oreo update was already leaked online and we know that the Android Oreo update is currently being soak tested by users. Two months ago we discovered that Motorola is recruiting testers for the Moto G4 Plus Android Oreo update.
The Android 8.1 Oreo build files with the November security patch appeared on forums, posted by rajatgupta1998, an XDA Senior Member. The build number for this is OPJ28.128. An unlocked bootloader and TWRP are recommended for the Oreo firmware. You should know that it is not possible to downgrade from this build if you have a locked bootloader. If you are looking for the instructions to flash the Moto G4 Oreo firmware, you can find them on the Moto G4 forums.
