Surface Pro 6 vs. iPad Pro 2018 – Best Specs and Features Comparison

Tablets have become essential gadgets for the modern man. And their evolution shows us that they are ready to compete with computers, smartphones and other devices. Two of the best tablets that appeared this year were the iPad Pros released by Apple and the Surface Pro 6 released by Microsoft. Obviously you would want to know what are the differences between these two, and which one is worth purchasing. We are here to answer all your questions.

The specs

If we try to analyse the performance of the Surface Pro 6 we have more models to focus on. There are multiple options to choose from. 8th-gen quad-core Intel i5 and i7 chips are powering them, and you can get 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM.

Meanwhile, the iPad Pros come with the A12X Bionic processor which is an improvement from the previous models. According to Apple, it is 90 percent faster than its predecessors, which is indeed impressive.

When it comes to storage, you can choose between 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB for the Microsoft Surface Pro 6, and 64GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB for the Apple iPad Pro tablets. There isn’t a major difference here.

Features

If we were to analyse their OS, the Surface Pro 6 uses Windows 10, while the iPad Pro runs iOS. This can create some differences between these two. For example, iOS has numerous benefits and it is powerful, but we shouldn’t forget that it was designed for mobile devices. On the other hand Windows 10 is used mostly for computers so it can handle any programs from Adobe Illustrator to iTunes.

These devices also share a couple of similarities. For example, they both have their styluses, Microsoft comes with the Surface Pen, while Apple has the Apple Pencil. There aren’t major differences between their cameras either, and both come with clip-on keyboard covers.

If we take a look at their ports, we can see that the iPad Pros only have one USB-C connector, while the Surface Pro 6 has a USB 3.0 port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a Mini DisplayPort socket. Therefore, at this part the Surface Pro 6 is the winner.

Design

In terms of design, they both adopt a slim, modern look. However, the latest iPad Pros brought more changes to the line, compares to the Surface Pro 6. That’s not saying that the Surface Pro design required some changes, but Apple’s improvements are refreshing as well.

Apple released two iPad Pro models: one with a 11-inch, 2,388 x 1,668 pixel, 264 ppi display (which measures 247.6 mm x 178.5 mm x 5.9 mm overall), and one with a 12.9-inch, 2,732 x 2,048 pixel, 264 ppi display (which measures 280.6 mm x 214.9 mm x 5.9 mm overall). These devices also come with shrunk bezels and the Home button does not exist anymore since the tablets use Face ID for authentication.

Meanwhile, the Surface pro 6 has 12.3 inches, 2,736 x 1,824 pixel, 267 ppi display (measuring 292 mm x 201 mm x 8.5 mm). This means that the Surface tablet is a bit thicker compared to its Apple counterpart. This can be an advantage for some, while users who are looking for portability might prefer the iPad Pro.

Conclusion

There aren’t huge differences between these tablets, so the choice should be determined by your personal preferences. You should decide which apps you need and what is the performance that you are expecting from your device. The operating system should be the most important factor here.
